Communication Offline - What causes it?

A communication offline message appears when the solar analytics monitoring device is no longer sending data packets to the server or is offline. They are generally represented by ‘No data’ text on the daily graph and ‘Data Unavailable’ on the Performance page.

Some common issues that causes a ‘Communication Fault’ are:

  • Poor 3G/4G reception
  • A obstacle blocking the 3G/4G reception from reaching the monitoring device (eg inside a building, thick metal enclosure)
  • 3G/4G outage in the area
  • Power outage in the area
  • Device is switched off or a tripped circuit breaker
  • Device is powered by a circuit breaker that has a timer settings on it
  • Faulty or broken device

Impact:

Solar Analytics is not able to calculate this site’s solar performance or provide alerts for problems with performance. We are also not able to display any data on this site’s Solar Analytics dashboard since the communication went offline.

Action required:

As a first step, we would like you to perform a power reset on the device. Please check out our article on how to troubleshoot a communication offline issue below.

If the reset does not resolve this issue, please click on ‘Contact Us’ below or reply to the alert email that you received with details of the light indicators before and after the reset and one of your support team will get back to you shortly.
