Setting up Solar Analytics to monitor solar on a downstream shed
If you are monitoring solar which is connected to a downstream board rather than the main board (like on a shed rather than the main home) follow this guide to get the right channel configuration so you can monitor the solar, the whole site consumption and the shed sub-board. It can be very easy to end up double-counting the solar production and having negative consumption values on the dashboard for these sites.
Option 1: Not monitoring the shed separately
Section titled “Option 1: Not monitoring the shed separately”The easiest way to set up a site like this is to not monitor the shed sub-board separately. Simply put CTs on the solar circuits for the shed device and then CTs on the grid connection for the main board device. This will allow for regular solar and whole site consumption monitoring. You can monitor other sub-circuits on the main board or sub-circuits on the shed board as you would normally but you cannot monitor the shed sub-board. To do so please view the instructions below
Option 2: Explicitly monitor the shed sub-board
Section titled “Option 2: Explicitly monitor the shed sub-board”In order to monitor the consumption of the shed sub-board which has the solar connected you need to follow the instructions below otherwise you will pick up the solar production in the consumption profile.
- On the shed device:
- Attach and configure the solar CTs normally
- Attach another set of CTs to the solar circuits and label them as Shed in the dashboard
- On the main board device
- Attach the grid CTs and label them Whole site consumptionas normal
- Attach CTs to the outgoing feed to the shed sub-board and label them as Shed
- Other sub-circuits on either the shed sub-board or the main board can be monitored as normal
Note: The amounts recorded by the Shed solar CTs will be cancelled out by the negative solar power values being passed back through Shed sub-board CTs leaving the consumption of the shed sub-board.
